Abstract

The diaries of A. Mokrytskyi, T. Shevchenko and L. Zhemchuzhnykov are unique historical and literary documents of the 19th century. From the analyzed creation works , it becomes clear that the texts before us are different in purpose, but united by similar compositional techniques, separate themes and the image of their teacher Karl Bryullov. The research was conducted using biographical and cultural and historical methods. It has been shown that the recollections of apprentices generally overlap. They highlight different facets of Karl Bryullov's personality, as a person and an artist, depending on the point of view of memories owner and their natural features. Considered in unity, they enrich our understanding of the painter and his educational and methodical activities. The important point is that Mokrytskyi often created portrait of his teacher based on their immediate impressions, Shevchenko and Zhemchuznykov resorted to their memories. The comparison of memoirs texts and diaries of contemporaries which are often contradictory helps to reconstruct the vivid details and nuances of the image of Karl Bryullov. The special attention is spared to the general moment in diaries – ekphrasis of Bryullov's paintings (description of paintings is represented through the author's "eyes" in the form of inner speech). It is interrupted by him flashbacks and meditation upon different issues. In the texts of Mokrytsky and Zhemchuzhnykov there are many large descriptive ekphrasis, in which the authors tell in detail about everything depicted in the picture. In Shevchenko's diary, there is no purely informative ekphrasis of an artistic work with a characteristic lengthy description. The writer shifts the emphasis from the story about the art object to its aesthetic impact (subjective impression), own reflection, critical perception of creativity, comparison.
