Two Secrets in The Work of Taras Shevchenko

Abstract

These are two works by Shevchenko, the publication of which still remains a mystery. The poem-ode "In Eternal Memory to Kotlyarevsky" was published during the poet's lifetime in the almanac "Lastivka", but was not included in both lifetime editions of "Kobzar". The manuscript of the poem "Whether it is a misfortune or a servitude" was crossed out by the poet from the "Little Book" and therefore was also not published in the aforementioned editions of "Kobzar". The author tries to clarify these situations and answer the question: "Why?". The analysis of the problem is accompanied by assumptions that may prompt other researchers of the poet's work to reflect.
