Musical Interpretation of Taras Shevchenko's Poetry in The Works of Pop Performers

Abstract

Background. The article examines the specific features of the musical interpretation of Taras Shevchenko's poetry in popular (pop) music. The relevance of the study is determined by the insufficient coverage of pop interpretations in academic discourse, despite their significant role in popularizing the works of the Kobzar. In contemporary socio-cultural conditions, particularly after the Revolution of Dignity and during the ongoing war, Shevchenko's poetry acquires new meanings and is actively integrated into mass culture. The aim of the article is to identify the specific features of musical interpretation of Taras Shevchenko's poetry in the works of pop performers.
Methods. The study employs a set of general scientific and musicological methods, including the analysis of musical compositions, comparison of interpretative approaches of different performers, generalization and systematization of key trends in the development of Shevchenko-themed music, as well as an interpretative approach.
Results. It has been established that the musical interpretation of Taras Shevchenko's poetry in pop music is characterized by genre diversity and active transformation of the poetic text in the process of its adaptation to musical form. Typical interpretative techniques have been identified, including textual fragmentation, rhetorical repetition, changes in intonational structure, and the introduction of authorial elements that contribute to the formation of new semantic accents. The study highlights the development trends of Shevchenko-themed music within popular culture and analyzes the individual stylistic features of performers. It is shown that under contemporary socio-cultural transformations, particularly in the context of war, Shevchenko's poetry gains renewed relevance and becomes integrated into the modern musical space.
Conclusions. Musical interpretations of Taras Shevchenko's poetry serve as an important means of its revitalization and popularization in the contemporary
cultural space. They contribute to the formation of new semantic dimensions, reflect socio-cultural transformations, and play a significant role in processes of national identity formation. Popular music emerges as an effective channel for integrating classical poetry into mass culture.
